Description

Archives du Musée McCord / Henry Richard S. Bunnett (1845-1910). Mention: Christian Brothers at the Seminary.

Vieux Séminaire de Saint-Sulpice. Un des plus anciens bâtiment témoin de l'Histoire de Montréal. Toujours en place en 2011 et en cours de restauration. Construction: 1684. Dessiné par François Dollier de Casson, agrandi et modifié en 1705 par Vachon de Belmont, conçu à la manière des hôtels particuliers du XVIIè siècle français. Sa symétrie parfaite - brisée en 1848 lorsqu'on a démoli l'aile Est - et son mur de ceinture sont tous des éléments typiques de l'architecture des riches demeures urbaines de l'époque. L'horloge publique en façade, installée en 1701, serait la plus ancienne du genre au Nord du Mexique.
