Title: Victory is a question of stamina

Creator/Contributor: Dunn, Harvey, 1884-1952 (artist); United States Food Administration (sponsor)

Created/Published: Latham Litho. & Ptg. Co., Brooklyn, NY

Date issued: 1917

Physical description: 1 print (poster) : lithograph, color

Summary: Image depicts two soldiers running with guns in hand, illustrating that wartime efforts require great stamina. Caption below title reads, "Send - the wheat, meat, fats, sugar - the fuel for fighters."

Genre: War posters

Subjects: Consumer rationing; Food; Soldiers

Notes: In 1917, the Food Administration began taking measures designed to conserve food for the war effort. Americans were asked to reduce their consumption of wheat, meat, sugar and fats in particular. Since wheat was needed for the Allies, white flour was rationed. Americans learned new recipes to bake bread, using substitute grains, and many families saved their "pure white bread" for once a week meals. Still others observed "Wheatless Wednesdays."
