Summary
[edit]DescriptionVictoria Lock - geograph.org.uk - 138936.jpg |
English: Victoria Lock, Goole, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. One of two usable entrances to Goole docks, big enough for ocean-going ships. The remains of Ouse Lock can be seen on the left. The area was busy up to the 1970s with coal-carrying container craft called 'Tom Puddings,' each of which can carry 35 tons. 60 of them sank in Ouse Lock in 1960. This led to the introduction of a false bow called a 'jebus' when being towed. |
