| Description |
English: Victoria Colonnade, Leamington Spa. A rare view of this north-facing building in sunshine, taken from the Victoria Bridge over the River Leam, Victoria Colonnade was designed by the architect William Thomas and completed in 1839. The ground floor was laid out as the Victoria Baths, which rivalled the Pump Rooms & Baths for elegance and respectability. The Colonnade overlooking the river was "an agreeable lounge" for subscribers, and still is for patrons of the Robbins Well pub, latest successor to the baths. The site of the Loft Theatre, extreme right and 98420, was originally the garden but has had a succession of buildings on it since the 1860s.The theatre is to move to another home and plans are afoot to build on the site once again. |
