Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Victoria Bridge replaced by Queens Bridge The current Queens Bridge, opened by Queen Elizabeth in 1960, is a replacement for Victoria Bridge, a steel structure completed in 1900, which was unable to cope with increasing traffic volumes. At low tide like this, the remains of the old piers can still be seen near the eastern bank. A plaque at the opposite end of the bridge explains that the framework of the old bridge was raised nearly six feet by jacks to support the new prestressed concrete structure whilst it was constructed underneath. The bunting above the bridge is in place to celebrate Perth Festival of the Arts.
