(b. 1658, Bruxelles, d. 1736, Bruxelles) Io Recognised by Her Father - Oil on canvas, 71 x 92 cm Private collection Janssens travelled to Italy under the patronage of Herzog Joachim II von Holstein-Plon where he spent several years assimilating the Roman classicism which is so evident in the present composition, the subject of which is taken from Ovid's Metamorphoses (1:639-663). The painting is signed lower right V.Janssens.
