Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Victim of river bank erosion The wake of passing ships heading to and from the port of Ipswich, coupled with prevailing westerly winds, cause considerable erosion of the banks of the River Orwell, as here at Nacton Shore. At high water springs, the river reaches the bank, as can be seen in this photo, which was taken soon after high water. This area is littered with fallen trees and stumps. The river is a kilometre wide at this point, and wave height can be considerable in high winds. Today it was relatively calm.
