Vue de la clef articulée centrale, qui solidarise les deux parties de l'ouvrage. Le viaduc ferroviaire enjambe la vallée du Viaur, qui coule 116 m en contrebas, long de 460m. C'est un ouvrage métallique qui par sa hardiesse en fait un des plus importants de France. L'arche centrale est de 220 m, cet arc central est composé de 2 ossatures symétriques s'arcboutant par l'intermédiaire d'une clé articulée en son centre. C'est la seule construction de ce type en France. A l'issue d'un concours ouvert en 1887, le projet fut attribué à l'ingénieur Paul Bodin de la Société de construction des Batignolles (aujourd'hui Spie Batignolles), et construit par celui-ci entre 1895 et 1902. Le pont est inauguré le 5 octobre 1903. |
