English: Vestee (Spain), 18th–early 19th century
Description
English: Vestee of heavy cream-colored linen embroidered in black wool. The round neck opening has a deep slit in the front which is embroidered on both sides with wide bands of heavily worked spirals. Around the collar are cross-stitched designs of stylized plants and birds. Both sides, corresponding to the shoulder area, have broad bands of stylized plant forms and small stags.The vestee is pulled over the head and tied at the sides with black and white tapes.
