Summary
[edit]DescriptionVery early colour image - Paget Colour process (detail showing colour grid) (4930188331).jpg |
The reproduction of the technical detail isn't great here - under a lens each colour 'dot' is actually a very sharp-edge diamond shape (or rather a square rotated 45-degrees). There are c. 3 dots per millimetre. It is a sandwich of two thin glass plates, measuring c. 4x3". It has a very distinctive colour 'grid' (see the detailed view). It is certainly not an Autochrome, doesn't appear to be a Dufaycolor or Finlay Colour ("Thames Colour Screen") which were two early thoughts, but actually appears to be a Paget Colour plate, made famous by Frank Hurley on his Antarctic expeditions. See adjacent images for full image and crop. All information and comments would be greatly appreciated. Discovered in a box of glass negatives, this I believe dates from the very early part of the 20th Century, probably no later than around 1920. |
