| Description |
English: Vertical strata. A rock outcrop on Banc Bwlchygarreg 1091959 , just north of the forestry track leading to Esgair Hir mine 1132888 and the forest beyond 1133027, shows mudstone strata (each layer only a few mm thick) which split well and are orientated almost vertically. Mudstone is a marine sediment, so the layers have been rotated by 90 degrees due to tectonic movements since the sediment was laid down around 500 million years ago. An exposed fold nearby 1129242 demonstrates the forces at play. |
