Summary
[edit]DescriptionVertical fault in Sevier River Formation (Miocene; Joe Lott Creek Canyon, Tushar Mountains, Utah, USA) 1.jpg |
English: Volcaniclastic sedimentary rocks in the Tertiary of Utah, USA.
This is the Sevier River Formation, a Miocene-aged, semilithified, fluvial sedimentary unit consisting of coarse-grained to fine-grained sediments of volcanic origin. Lithologies in the area range from conglomerate to sandstone to siltstone. Much of the outcrop at this site has castellate weathering. The whitish band is a volcanic ash bed dating to 14 million years. Notice that it has been offset by a minor vertical fault. Stratigraphy: Sevier River Formation, Middle to Upper Miocene, 7 to 14 Ma Locality: outcrop next to Castle Rock Campground, Joe Lott Creek Canyon, Fishlake National Forest, south of Fremont Indian State Park & south of Interstate 70, northern Tushar Mountains, Sevier County, southwest-central Utah, USA |
