Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Looking westward down Vernon Place toward Fairfield Street in the Vernon Triangle, Buffalo, New York, July 2020. Though diminutive in size at only about 26 and a half acres, this triangular neighborhood sandwiched between Central Park on the north, Highland Park on the southeast, and (across the old Belt Line railroad tracks) Parkside on the southwest has always maintained a distinct identity even as outsiders tend to lump it in with the latter of its two neighbors. Developed around the turn of the century on farmland that once belonged to Elam Jewett and Washington Adams Russell, it was initially a middle- to upper-middle-class neighborhood of professionals and has largely maintained its cachet to this day, though it now sports significant minorities of both middle-class African-Americans and also a Muslim community served by Masjid at-Taqwa just across Amherst Street in Central Park.
