DescriptionVenus Italica - Antonio Canova.jpg | Venus Itálica de Antonio Cánova:"Cuando, en 1803, Napoleón hizo trasladar la Venus de Medici a París, los florentinos se quedaron sin uno de sus más preciados tesoros. Por este motivo solicitaron a Antonio Cánov, una réplica de la adorada estatua antigua. El artista, reacio al principio, accedió, finalmente a su ejecución, aunque tras algunos años de trabajo la copia de la Venus de Medici acabó convirtiéndose en el germen de la Venus Itálica, una nueva escultura creada, con apreciables diferencias con la mencionada obra florentina. Venus, sorprendida en su baño, se cubre parte del cuerpo con una tela que se enrosca sobre su brazo derecho y cae a sus pies hasta parecer que se funde con la propia base de la escultura. El rostro, de una belleza angelical, se vuelve acompañando el movimiento del cuerpo, para intensificar el efecto de sorpresa y ofrecernos múltiples puntos de vista. Autor: Antonio Cánova.
