| Transcript | A Narrow Canal. Venice, the beautiful, ancient and interesting city of the Adriatic, is probably one of the most extraordinarily built cities in the world. Its 15,000 houses and palaces are erected chiefly on piles on and around a group of 117 small islands, and consequently numerous small canals, navigable usually by only small boats, intersect the city in all directions, giving the thoroughfares an absolutely unique, romantic and picturesque appearance. |
