Summary
[edit]DescriptionVelia.jpg |
Ruins of velia/ selfmade image 2005 Italiano: Porta Rosa: Arco greco nelle rovine di Velia, in Campania. Viadotto sul crinale della collina. Il passaggio attraverso l'arco mette in collegamento il quartiere meridionale con quello settentrionale, percorrendo la via principale della città
English: The so called "Porta Rosa" (Pink Gate) in Elea (Campania): made of sandstone bricks, it's a rare exemplar of Greek arch dating back to IVth cenury BC. Actually, the arch is not a gate, as Italian name would suggest, but a viaduct, no traces of carving or hinges having being found in the stone. Passing trough the arch, there is the main road of Velia, which connects the southern quarter with the northern quarter. |
