Notes Velde's still life is characterized by its simplicity and modesty - be it its composition or colour solution. The beer rummer and partially peeled lemon refer to the presence of a man whose actions is criticized via the hidden symbols. The oysters have been since ancient times, known for their aphrodisiacal effects and at the same time encouraged the appetite. Therefore, their consumption along with alcohol enhances desire and leads to immodesty.
