The mercury conftantly fubfided by theretreat of the fap about 9 or 10 in themorning, when the Sun grew hot 5 but ina very moift foggy morning the fap waslater before it retreated, viz.-tiftnoon, orfome time after the fog was gone. About 4 or 5 a clock in the afternoon,when the Sun went off the Vine, the fapbegan to pufli afrefli into the gages, fo asto make the mercury rife in the open legs5but it always rofe fafteft from Sun rife till9 or 10 in the morning. The fap in b (the oldefl: ftem) plaid themod freely to and fro, and was thereforefoonefl: affe&ed with the changes from hotto cool, or from wet to dry, and vice verfa. And April 10, toward the end of the bleed-ing feafon, h began firft to fuck up themercury from 6 to 5, fo as to be 4 incheshigher in that leg than the other.
