Description
English: Funeral munumental cup with a frieze of fifteen horsemen. It contained probably the remainings of the dead. Found in Pergama during the reign of the sultan Mourad 1st (1359-1389). It contained two alabaster urns full with gold now preserved in Sainte-Sophia in Istanbul. Marbor, 2nd century BC, Pergama. Gift of the sultan Mahmoud II to the French king Louis-Philippe 1837. Louvre museum (Paris, France). LP 1739. Ma 2905.
Français : Vase funéraire monumental décoré d'une frise de quinze cavaliers. Il contenait probablement les restes du défunt. Trouvé à Pergame sous le règne du sultant Mourad Ier (1359-1389). Il contenait deux urnes en albatre remplies d'or conservées aujourd'hui à Sainte-Sophie d'Istanbul. Marbre, IIe siècle av. J.-C., Pergame. Don du sultan Mahmoud II au roi Louis-Philippe 1837. Musée du Louvre. LP 1739. Ma 2905.
