Summary
[edit]DescriptionVariable guide vanes on compressor case.jpg |
English: On this cut-out compressor case from a J79 turbojet, the mechanism enabling the rotation of the variable guide vanes (also called compressor stator blades) can be observed on the outside.
Variable guide vanes enable control of the compressor pressure ratio that is independent of speed, and help prevent surges. Flow was from left to right: the size of the blades decreases as the air density increases. |
