| Description |
English: Vankulat Valley, the heartland of Azhikode, got its name because of the presence of this pond there. Vankulam is one of the main water sources of Azhikode village. The beautiful rock formations around this pond will amaze anyone. Vankulam abounds with such intricate geometrical shapes. As the name suggests, Vankulam is the biggest pond in this village. At a glance you can tell that it has an area of more than one acre. . About 410 years ago, this water source, built by Murikancheri Kelunayar, who was a pillar in the army of Lord Chirakkal and was the protector of Mataikotta, does not get enough attention. The fields around the pond are known as Vankulathuvayal.
മലയാളം: അഴീക്കോടിന്റെ സിരാകേന്ദ്രം ആയ വന്കുലത്ത് വയലിന് ആ പേര് വന്നത് ഈ കുളം അവിടെ ഉള്ളത് കൊണ്ടാണ്. അഴീക്കോട് ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ പ്രധാന ജലസ്രോതസ്സുകളില് ഒന്നാണ് വന്കുളം. ഈ കുളത്തിന്റെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള മനോഹരങ്ങളായ കല്പ്പടവുകള് ആരേയും അതിശയിപ്പിക്കും. അത്രയും വിഷമമുള്ള ജ്യോമട്രിക്കല് ഷെയ്പ്പുകളേക്കൊണ്ട് സമൃദ്ധമാണ് വന്കുളം. പേരു പോലെ തന്നെ ഈ ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ എറ്റവും വലിയ കുളമാണ് വന്കുളം. ഒന്നിലധികം ഏക്ര വിസ്ഥാരമുണ്ടെന്ന് ഒറ്റ നോട്ടത്തില് പറയാം. . ഏകദേശം 410 വര്ഷങ്ങള്ക്ക് മുന്പ് ചിറക്കല്‍ തമ്പുരാന്റെ സേനയില്‍ നെടുംതൂണായി പ്രവര്‍ത്തിക്കുകയും മാടായിക്കോട്ടയുടെ സംരക്ഷകനായി കഴിയുകയും ചെയ്തിരുന്ന അഴീക്കോട് വാസിയായിരുന്ന മുരിക്കഞ്ചേരി വീട്ടില് കേളുനായര് നിര്മ്മിച്ച ഈ ജല സ്രോതസ്സിന് വേണ്ടത്ര ശ്രദ്ധ പതിയുന്നില്ല. കുളത്തിനു ചുറ്റുമുള്ള വയല്പ്പരപ്പുകളേയാണ് വന്കുളത്തുവയല് എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നത് |
