Former Somerset Freeholder Van N. Voorhees, 84, Dies. South Bound Brook, New Jersey. Van N. Voorhees, Somerset County freeholder from 1932 until 1938, died Saturday in Muhlenberg Hospital, Plainfield, where he had been a patient 15 days. He was 84. Mr. Voorhees, director of the freeholder board in 1937 and 1938, also served as vice president of the Somerset County Agriculture Board and was the initiator of the movement to open a Somerset County Vocational School, which will become a reality in September. He worked for more than 25 years on this project. A former real estate broker, he was a farmer, appraiser and auctioneer for more than 50 years. He also served as a Franklin Township Committeeman for 16 years and was a former member of the Franklin Township Board of Health. A native of Middlebush, he had lived at 50 Cedar St. here for the past 16 years, moving here from Franklin Township. He was the oldest member of the South Bound Brook Reformed Church and belonged to the South Bound Brook Republican Club. Mr. Voorhees served as general chairman of Somerset County's 250th anniversary celebration in May 1938. Surviving are his wife, the former Alice Rousseau; two sons, Donald of Milltown and Kenneth of Franklin Township; a daughter, Mrs. Steven Youshock at home; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Wilbur G. Voorhees of South Bound Brook. The Rev. James B. Mulder, interim pastor, will conduct funeral services tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Reformed Church. Interment will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Middlebush.
