Newark Valley vs Candor Varsity Basketball - Newark Valley, NY ++++++++++++++ Valley nearly, well actually DID blow, a 38-24 lead that they held going into the half time in this game. The played the 1st two periods very well with good ball handling and control of the game. They fired often from the field and connected nearly as often which is what allowed them to jump out to the lead like they did. This game had the earmarks of a blowout. Then came the 3rd period. This was a different Valley team than the one we just saw 10 minutes ago. *Horrible* ball control, and the sharp shooters who were putting the ball into the net suddenly had blinders on. Candor capitalized big time on this and came storming back to not only tie the game, but to go ahead at one point. Suddenly this was a nail biter of a game and it literally cam down the the very last few seconds - like 2, maybe 3 secods. Candor had the lead by 2 and a Valley possession saw a furious volley of shots underneath the goal. Christian Tapia came up with the goods on a rebound from off the rim and managed to miracously get it in to ie the game back up with time running out! The game was sent into a 4 minute overtime period and the boys from the Valley were back in control and sent Candor packing with a final score of 72-66. Kevin Coleman was hot early on with Mason Parmelee coming on strong at the tail end of the game. Tapia had a couple of good defensive moments and was on & off - he came through in the clutch though! This was a fun and entertaning game to watch - the crowd and the atmosphere is great at these things. Fans . . . you know, your Valley Varsity Football squad will be the defending Division VI Champions next year . Let's get the football field rock-n-rollin' like this gym does, eh?! :) |
