Summary

Description	Valenciennes (Hauts-de-France) Lycée Antoine Watteau. En 1903, la municipalité décide la construction d'un nouveau bâtiment pour répondre à l'augmentation du nombre d'élèves du collège. Les travaux, sur les plans de l'architecte Paul Dusart, se déroulent de février 1904 à la fin 1905. Le nouveau bâtiment accueillera la rentrée 1906. Le coût de la construction s'est élevé à 858 000 Francs financés par moitiés égales par l'Etat et la commune, soit environ 3,4 millions d'euros d'aujourd'hui. Le bâtiment ne sera inauguré que le 27 juin 1909, aucun ministre n'étant disponible plus tôt. C'est alors un collège. Pendant la première guerre mondiale, l’armée allemande y installe un hôpital. Le collège devient lycée en 1921. En 1939, les bâtiments du lycée sont d'abord réquisitionnés par l'armée française, puis après l'invasion les nazis y installent la Kommandantur. Les bâtiments retrouvent leur vocation scolaire en 1945.
