Summary
[edit]DescriptionVajrayogini, Philadelphia Museum of Art.jpg |
English: Vajrayogini, Philadelphia Museum of Art. Description from the museum reads: "Vajrayogini, Around 1600-1900. Tibet. Gilded copper alloy with polychrome decoration. Gift of Natacha Rambova, 1964-180-2. Vajrayogini, the female embodiment of buddhahood, is the consort of Chakrasamvara. The profound and secret yogic practices related to Vajrayogini produce swift realizations that speedily move spiritual seekers along their path to enlightenment. Here, Vajrayogini tramples two figures symbolizing negative thoughts and emotions. Her curved chopper suts away ignorance and the skull bowl from which she drinks blood represents the interconnectedness of reality. Her nudity, covered at some later time by a small leaf, represents that reality is unadorned and empty. As a whole, then, this image of Vajrayogini signifies the state of enlightenment in which one may fully understand reality."
