[edit]DescriptionVMFA-121 re-designation ceremony 121120-M-KU760-172.jpg |
English: Gen. James Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, speaks of the
importance of the F-35B to the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense during the re-designation ceremony of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, at Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, Nov. 20. VMFA-121 is an important milestone for the Marine Corps and the Department of Defense as the F-35 expands from a testing and training aircraft towards full-scale tactical aviation operations. The quick sortie turnaround of the Marine Corps' aircraft forward, expeditionary airfields with shorter runways has changed the tempo of battle in our favor for more than 20 years. The F-35B's Short Takeoff and Vertical Landing (STOVL) capabilities will allow us to continue to use expeditionary airfields in uncertain, non-permissive, or remote environments to our advantage.
