L-R: the Shell Co representative in Darwin for the 1934 Centenary Air Race, 'Bunny' Proudfoot; Capt R A Prendergast, a pilot with Qantas; a Shell representative, E H Broadfoot; Qantas flight engineer F R Charlton; first officer for Qantas, W V Creetes. The occasion was the arrival from England of DH86 VH-USG at Darwin on 13 November 1934, the second of the type to arrive for a commencement of the Australia-Singapore link with Imperial Airways under a contract with the Australian Government. Two days after the photo was taken Prendergast, Charlton and Creetes were killed when VH-USG crashed in the early morning near Longreach Qld. |
