Summary
[edit]DescriptionUxbridge Lynch Green - geograph.org.uk - 1755156.jpg |
English: Uxbridge Lynch Green The ground was given by Henry Earl of Derby in 1576 as a burial ground and was enclosed in the same year at the cost of one Marjery Legie. It was closed as a churchyard in 1855. It was the site in 1555 of the burning at the stake of three Protestant men due to their beliefs. Since the town planning vandalism of the 1960s, which resulted in the complete demolition of many ancient buildings in Cross Street to the north of here, it has formed part of an island surrounded by traffic and is now difficult to access safely. |
