Summary
[edit]DescriptionUtilization of solar spectrum of a PVT collector.svg |
English: PV cells only convert 15% - 20% of incident solar irradiance.
The largest share of the electromagnetic spectrum are optical and thermalization losses. PVT collector transfer heat from the PV cells the a fluid and thus utilize the otherwise unused part of the solar spectrum to harness useful heat gains. Source: own graph. Reference AM1.5g spectrum based on table data obtained from NREL(https://rredc.nrel.gov/solar//spectra/am1.5/) Optical losses based on own spectroscopical measurements of the transmittance and reflectance spectrum of a c-Si PV module at Fraunhofer ISE. Electrical gain spectrum based on the spectral response of a c-Si PV module and scaled to match an efficiency of 15%. Measurements of spectral response at Fraunhofer ISE Heat gain spectrum based on a thermal efficiency of 60% assuming spectrally constant heat losses |
