English: A Ute girl prepares to use an atlatl (ancient wooden spear-throwing tool) in grasslands west of the dunefield. A crowd of other Ute people, park staff, and associates watch in the background. The snow-capped Sangre de Cristo Mountains are also visible in the background. Atlatls were used here in past millennia to hunt large prehistoric mammals.
