[edit]DescriptionUrsuline-Nuns-Jubilee-Manuscript Women of the Book Collection.jpg |
English: 585 x 645 mm, illuminated manuscript on parchment. This document was composed to celebrate the demi-jubilee of Jeanne Elisabeth du Bois, also known as Jeanne-Isabelle de Sainte Rosalie (1655-1724), who had professed in the Ursuline Convent of Lille in 1673. Two asterisks in the text connected her birth name and her called name to Saint Isabelle of France (1224-1270) and Saint Rosalia of Palermo (1130-1166), respectively. The text contains two medallions with devices. The first medallion shows the sun and its reflection in a cloud and is accompanied by the verse ‘He becomes his equal,’ symbolizing that Sister Jeanne-Isabelle reflects the eternal light from Saint Rosalia and Saint Isabelle. The second medallion depicts the anagram of Isabelle, “Abeilles,” bees. Under a picture of a beehive and and a bee swarm, is stated: ‘She serves humans and the King of Heaven.’ The text below likens Isabelle to an obedient, skillful, cautious, and industrious bee. The bottom of the text, ‘Mon seIgneVr DV boIs Votre époVse VoVs sert et obeIt aInsI que L’abeILLe IngenIeVse.” with certain letters in red and capitalized, probably referring to a date in roman numerals.
