English: Urban Mills, standing, a Pearl Harbor survivor who was stationed aboard the battleship USS West Virginia (BB 48), tells his story at the 17th annual Pearl Harbor remembrance ceremony in the Jack Murdock Auditorium at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Wash., Dec. 7, 2012. More than 300 civilians, active duty and retired U.S. Service members and eight Pearl Harbor survivors and their family members attended the ceremony. The morning of Dec. 7, 1941, Japanese bombers staged a surprise attack on U.S. military forces in Hawaii. The day after the attack, before a joint session of Congress, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked for a declaration of war against Japan and the U.S. officially entered World War II. |
