Description |
English: A complete lead papal bulla of Pope Urban IV (1261-1264 AD). The obverse bears the inscription VR/B.ANVS/PP.IIII with an outer border made up of pellets. The faces of Saints Peter and Paul are depicted on the reverse, moulded in bas relief and each surrounded by a separate pellet border with a crozier between the two. pellets form an outer border. Above the faces is the inscription SPASPE, an abbreviation for St. Paul and St. Peter. St. Paul is seen on the left looking right, with a long pointed beard and two raised pellets on his forhead. St. Peter is on the right facing left, with beard and hair formed from pellets. |
