Summary
[edit]DescriptionUr-Brenz-Tal Schwaebische-Alb.jpg |
English: Valley of river Brenz. Todays upper Brenz (hidden beyond the road) is a poor danubian rivulet. Rivulet and valley beyond it are a strictly protected nature reserve, the visible part of the valley is a protected landscape (Landschaftschutz). The 600m wide valley, ca. 3,5km south of its karst springs (town Königsbronn in the back) cannot be eroded by its contemporary poor rivulet. River Brenz is one of the oldest rivers of Southwest Germany. This is backed by 20 Million years old ”Ochsenberg Schotter”, (river gravel) in a village high above the valley. The catchment area of a pleistocene Brenz reached far beyond the northern border of the Swabian Alb.
The main water devide, now dividing the springs of river Kocher (to the N, river Neckar) and those of river Brenz (to the S, river Danube), occured when the power of water erosion turned to be less than the uplift of the Swabian Alb. |
