Summary

[edit]
Description A little further up the hill, on the high street and to the left, is the big hall known as Tamaris Darbazi (Hall of Queen Tamar). This part of Uplistisikhe has undergone some restoration and reconstruction. I read somewhere that this was in all probability a pagan temple (though Georgia’s great Christian Queen Tamar might have probably used it later). My two lovely girls informed me that this was used by the great Queen Tamar. A tourist takes a welcome breather in the shade of the rebuilt wall to catch up on a bit of texting (what else!?) There is little shade in the area otherwise, unless one dives into one of the cave dwellings themselves. (Uplistsikhe, Georgia, Sept. 2016)
