Summary

[edit]
Description The # 1 attraction in Penang is the Georgetown Historic area. I'd ensured to book myself a hotel there in the historic district, and although my stay in Penang was painfully short, a ride round the heritage area is where I headed to first. Walking is usually recommended, and is the most attractive option, but with just a day and a half at my disposal to see the whole of Penang, I decided not to fumble with maps and route plans, and to opt for a slightly faster mode of transportation. One of the most interesting would be on a traditional pedicab or trishaw. Also known locally as the beca or rickshaw, this is a quaint mode of transport that ferries passengers through the streets of Penang at a leisurely pace. In Malaysia, pedestrian-pulled rickshaws were gradually replaced by cycle rickshaws (beca in Malay). So here is a line of becas parked outside a hotel in Georgetown.
