Summary
[edit]DescriptionUnloading cocaine.jpg | Six tons of narcotics, seized in August and September of this year, is offloaded by Sailors assigned to the frigate USS Rentz (FFG 46), left to right, Fire Controlman 3rd Class Kenneth Abad, Torpedoman’s Mate 3rd Class Chris Garcia and Fire Controlman 3rd Class Josh Reid. Home ported in San Diego, Calif., Rentz, along with her embarked SH-60B Seahawk helicopter from the “Wolfpack” of Anti-Submarine Squadron 47 (HSL-47) -- together with U.S. Coast Guard Law Enforcement Det. 106 (USCG LEDET 106) -- thwarted several drug-smuggling outfits in the Eastern Pacific and Caribbean Sea by intercepting suspected vessels typically built for the transport of narcotics. Since the beginning of her deployment, Rentz has prevented almost 14,000 pounds of cocaine from reaching the United States. Rentz recently pulled into Naval Station Mayport, Fla., to offload seized cargo, and to conduct a scheduled intermediate maintenance availability (IMA) at the mid-point of her six-month deployment with Commander U.S. Naval Forces Southern Command. |
