Title
Unknown date: Stone Head
Description
English: A typical example a carved stone head, often loosely referred to as 'Celtic' heads, that are found in some numbers in Britain, the great majority of which, including this one, are un-dateable. The object is carved in red sandstone.

The head has a pointed-oval shaped flat face with incised lentoid eyes. A horizontal grove indicates cheeks and the nose is long and narrow with rounded irregular nostrils. The raised lips are lentoid and slightly downturned with a central horizontal groove in the centre. A curved groove separates the face from the head of the object where the hairline would be. The object rises up towards the back of the head which does not appear to have any detail from the images. The neck is sub-oval in cross section and roughly carved possibly containing a recent break on one side.

The object measures 12 inches high. This object has not been seen by the recorder but has been recorded through the images. Measurements provided by the owner. The object may date from Iron Age to modern times.
