Summary
[edit]DescriptionUniversitätskapelle.jpg |
English: The stained glass windows in the University Chapel of the choir at the Freiburg Minster date to 1524-27, according to accounting documents. The pictorial themes relate to the university, which was founded in 1457 and arranged for its own chapel at the minster, in part as a burial site for professors, and set the designs. The artist is unknown, but some art historians have pointed to the influence of Augsburg woodcuts produced in the circle around Hans Burgkmair. In 1876, the panes were washed off and newly painted by Heinrich Helmle (1829-1909). The left-hand (eastern) panel depicts Jesus teaching in the temple (Luke 2:41-52). The right-hand (western) panel depicts the four disciplines medicine, philosophy, theology, and law.
