Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Built in 1933-1934, this massive Art Deco-style building complex, consisting of the main Post Office building to the west and a smaller service wing to the east, was designed by Magney & Tusler as the main post office for Minneapolis. The building was funded via the New Deal’s Public Works Administration (PWA), and features an exterior clad in limestone and granite, with vertical emphasis at the window openings, decorative carved Art Deco motifs, metal window frames and decorative spandrel panels, decorative door surrounds, and a modern, metal panel-clad skyway on the second floor linking the main building and the service wing. Inside the 540-foot-long main building is a lobby running along most of the width of the first floor, which features Art Deco paneling and pilasters, and a 365-foot-long bronze light fixture on the ceiling. The building is a contributing structure in the St. Anthony Falls Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971.
