Trupele sarde trebuie să se retragă în Piemont. Austriecii invadează Regatul Sardiniei și înving lesne trupele sarde în bătălia de la Novara. În același timp austriecii sufocă revolta Veneției și guvernul Republicii de San Marco.
English: Map of Italy in 1848 in Romanian: First Italian War of Independence. After many revolts in various states in the Italian peninsula, the Sardinian king Charles Albert decided to declare war to the Austrian Empire. The Sardinian troops invaded the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia and quickly occupied Lombardy. They clashed with the local troops in the battle at the bridge of Goito, in the battle of Pastrengo and in the battle of Santa Lucia. The city of Venice rebelled against Austrian rule and the Republic of San Marco was declared. The Austrian army entered the Kingdom of Lombardy-Venetia to help the local army. They occupy the insurgent city of Udine and in the battle of Cornuda they confront the troops of volunteers, come from the countries of Central Italy, and easily won over them. The Austrian army continued its march aimed at Verona and Mantova, where they were not able to win in the battles fought there, but they hastily defeated the Sardinian army at Custoza. The Sardinian troops were compelled to retreat in Piedmont. Austrians invaded Piedmont and easily won over Sardinian troops in the battle of Novara. At the same time the Austrians crushed the Venice uprising and the gouvernment of the Republic of San Marco. |
