Title
Unidentified object, possibly medieval or post-medieval (front, reverse)
Description
English: Cast copper-alloy fragment of an unidentified object, probably dating from the medieval or early post-medieval periods. Length: 22mm; width: 35mm; thickness: 4mm; mass: 7.4g. The fragment consists of two complete conjoined discs with the broken remains of a third above and a broken edge below. To either side of the incomplete disc, there are broken projections, one of which is barely visible, and in the other there is a circular recess - probably a setting for a small stone/pellet. The discs are concave on the front and decorated with incised designs resembling fleur-de-lys. There are also traces of a white metal coating on the front. The reverse is flat and undecorated. A similar and more complete object is included in "Treasure Hunting", June 2009, p. 9. This consists of three conjoined discs, with a crown above the disc at the top and a broken stub of a projection between the two discs at the bottom. There are also settings to either side of the upper disc, some of which retain stones set within.
