L’AMP de Joal-Fadiouth s’étend sur une vaste superficie de 174 kilomètres carrés, englobant une diversité d’écosystèmes marins et côtiers.

Le lagon de cette aire protégée est particulièrement remarquable pour ses zones humides, qui jouent un rôle essentiel dans la préservation de la biodiversité aquatique. Parmi les espèces protégées, on trouve la tortue marine, une créature emblématique de ces eaux, ainsi que de vastes étendues de mangroves. English: This is a photograph taken at the Joal-Fadiouth Marine Protected Area (MPA), an exceptional site located about 130 kilometers from Dakar, the capital of Senegal. The Joal-Fadiouth MPA covers a vast area of 174 square kilometers, encompassing a diversity of marine and coastal ecosystems.

The lagoon within this protected area is particularly remarkable for its wetlands, which play a crucial role in the preservation of aquatic biodiversity. Among the protected species are marine turtles, iconic creatures of these waters, and extensive mangrove forests. These mangroves are not only vital for local wildlife, providing habitat and breeding grounds for many fish and bird species, but they also play a fundamental role in protecting the coastlines from erosion and storms.
