| Description |
English: Underpass beneath the A31, Winding Stonard, New Forest It's a close call, but this northern entrance to the underpass beneath the A31 is just inside this grid square. The A31(T) dual carriageway effectively divides in two the open lands of the Forest. This underpass is one of the few points where there is safe access for walkers and commoners' stock from the northern part to the southern part. These underpasses are usually very smelly places as the ponies shelter here and leave a huge amount of dung. This particular underpass seems reasonably well drained as it slopes down towards the southern side. The other side is shown in this photograph: 267468. |
