Description

Fuente Wallace. En 1872 un filántropo inglés, sir Richard Wallace, decidió encargar al escultor francés Charles Lebourg un modelo de fuente que simbolizase la paz duradera entre los pueblos. Creó éste una fuente urbana de hierro colado donde cuatro cariátides femeninas (todas ellas diferentes) sostenían una cúpula con cuatro peces de la que mana agua.

Las fuentes de Richard Wallace, (conocido por sus fuentes de París) cuyas cuatro cariátides simbolizan la paz. Ésta es una de las originales de las dos que aun quedan, de las doce que Wallace regaló a Barcelona con ocasión de la Exposición Universal de 1888. En las Rambla Capuchinos enfrente del Hotel Oriente hay otra, pero esa es de nueva fundición, sobre uno de los moldes de Wallace.
