Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A so-called Umarell in Bologna, watching the roadworks in progress near the Two Towers, at the confluence of Strada Maggiore in Piazza di Porta Ravegnana. Originated from the Bolognese dialect, and increasingly spreading in other parts of Italy since 2010s, the word "umarèl" ("little man") refers specifically to men in age of retirement who spend some time watching building sites, especially roadworks – stereotypically with hands clasped behind their back and offering unwanted advices to the construction workers.
