English: Ulgary abandoned village If you go up Glen Moidart the track peters out into a mess of planks below Assary. Once beyond the flat valley floor (former lake bed) a grass track worn by the farmer's quadbike rises over a rock-bar and drops into a hidden inner valley. Here is the beautiful abandoned village of Ulgary, very old - none of the hut shapes are squared, but not just summer shielings - there are many field walls, and cultivated patches up the hillside. I have never been in a place where you could so easily see and hear the activity of a hundred people. |
