Description
English: 3h smoke and fire damper, qualified to UL555 by means of fire testing under negative pressure, enabling cool, unexposed side, laboratory air to be drawn into the furnace through any gaps inside or outside of the damper, thus cooling down the system while being tested. Firestopping or any sealing of listing-mandated gaps voids the listing. SMACNA white paper on the topic: https://www.smacna.org/docs/default-source/technical-resources/improperfiredamperinstallation.pdf?sfvrsn=d121fda5_2 This does not address the topic of smoke migration through the exterior damper gap. In fire testing, this is not apparent, because the furnace runs at negative pressure, which cools the product being tested. But when the fire damper perimeter, whether located in a floor or wall, is under positive pressure on one side, other countermeasures can be employed to restrict smoke migration to the protected area, or unexposed side, such as to safeguard egress routes and areas of refuge from smoke potentially migrating from engaged compartments. This picture is in a series of pictures, described on https://community.nfpa.org/thread/45924, complete with a video link in the comments, at the bottom.
