Description
Nederlands: Mariniers behoeden Nederlandse koopvaardijschepen al sinds 2011 voor piraten. De zeesoldaten van deze zogenoemde Vessel Protection Detachments (VPD’s) zijn voor dit beveiligingswerk vandaag voor het eerst geëerd. Dat gebeurde via lovende woorden en met de zogenoemde VPD-gesp. Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert en Commandant der Strijdkrachten generaal Tom Middendorp reikten de onderscheidingen uit aan boord van Zr. Ms. Rotterdam tijdens de Wereldhavendagen.
