Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Female Sphinx taking a necklace out of a casket: on the other side, a crater, emblem of conviviality. Remembering that the Theban Sphinx was the destruction of all who fell into her clutches, this graceful design was well adapted for the signet of some Lais or Phryne of the best times of Greece. Pale green chalcedony. (Hertz.)
